About the Artist
My journey into weaving began in 2017 at a stressful time in my life I weaved my a way to calmness, allowing me the opportunity to fine my zen each day. It became very therapeutic and satisfied my creative fix each day.
Weaving takes your mind to another place. Touching and manipulating different fibres and textured yarns became a soothing and relaxing way to navigate each day. There were no rules just pure creative unconsciousnesses.
Before long I was asked to teach weaving and attend the Canberra Royal Show and National Alpaca Show to demonstrate weaving with alpaca.
Next to follow were invitations to teach weaving and attend major craft shows like Craft Alive in Sydney and Canberra, the Wool Expo in Canberra and the Quilt and Craft Shows in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
In no time Fibre Art in Australia was born. It became the place to find quality fibres and yarns, kits for weaving and a way to expand my skills and teach others the value of weaving can have in their own lives.
Hand dying my own fibres and yarns soon followed. Proudly supporting our Australian Regional farmers in Canberra and Queensland using their merino bases for dyeing. I dye in small batches and the colours made depends on what inspires me on the day, this adds to its artistic nature. So no two skeins will be alike.
The yarn created can be used in your weaving, knitting, crochet, embroidery and other crafts.
My partnership with Ashford Looms and Wheels was a natural progression. Sourcing quality tools for weaving and much more. Using the Ashford Weaving Looms and their Rigid Heddle Looms have been a great way to take my weaving and to encourage or weavers to take their creative journey to another level. Being an Ashford Dealer here in Sydney, Australia means I can source the best quality products and have them shipped to your door.
In late 2024 I began hand spinning on the spindle, the traditional spinning wheel and on my e spinner which is an electric spinner. My journey into spinning delicious hand spun yarns continues today.
Designing crochet patterns is another passion. I have patterns for crochet soft toys, scarves, cowls. blankets, bags and baskets. I love to create kits to accompany my patterns so you can literally have everything you need in one pack and off you go and make your creation.
You will find that I also like to break to rules when it come to the fibres and yarns in my kits. I use a mix of colours, textures and yarn thickness which once mixed together in the one project create a truely unique creations with an artisan flair.
Today I continue designing and making, weaving, crochet, hand dying and spinning in my home studio in Sydney.
I value the importance of learning new skills and experimenting with each art form each day learning and experimenting. I love exploring colour and texture within my work. I hand dye and hand blend all my favourite fibres. This gives me an amazing sense of creative freedom, bringing me much joy and providing me with endless inspiration.
Acting on intuition and letting go of rules are an artists super power. Life doesn’t always encourage and support this, so we have to re-learn how and push ourselves outside the box. Often these are the times that spark the most creativity, the most innovation.
This process brings me immense joy and serves as a wellspring of endless inspiration.
I thrive on breaking the rules when it comes to the fibres and yarns in my kits. By combining an eclectic mix of colors, textures, and yarn thicknesses, I create truly unique pieces that exude artisan flair. Each project becomes a canvas for experimentation, showcasing the beauty of unexpected combinations.
I believe that acting on intuition and embracing the freedom to let go of traditional rules is an artist's superpower. Life often presents challenges that can stifle this creative spirit, so we must actively re-learn how to push ourselves beyond the confines of convention. It is during these moments of exploration that we ignite the most creativity and innovation. Each step taken outside the box opens new avenues of artistic expression, fueling our passion and deepening our connection to the craft.
